Why Wood?
Our philosophy of pursuing the pure, original sound is not merely about reproducing music—it is about recreating the very moment when music comes alive. In the 1970s, that pursuit led us to an answer: wood.
The Nature of Wood
The warm tones of violins, pianos, and guitars—and the rich resonance that fills concert halls and churches—all arise from the unique acoustic properties of wood. Wood transmits sound swiftly, suppresses unwanted vibrations, and, over time, its material stabilizes, allowing its tone to mature—deeper and richer.
If that organic sound—which no artificial material can reproduce—could be recreated in an earphone, music would breathe more vividly into the human heart.
Driven by that belief, JVC embarked on a journey to create the world's first diaphragm crafted from real wood.
The Journey to Creating WOOD masterpiece
Wood is a challenging material—difficult to process, hard to maintain in consistent quality, and prone to warping with changes in temperature and humidity. Achieving precise acoustic performance required countless trials and advanced audio engineering. Yet, we remained steadfast in our pursuit of the unique qualities only wood can offer. In 2008, our dedication bore fruit with the development of wired earphones featuring Wood Diaphragms.
Following that, we kept refining materials and shapes to pursue the ideal sound. In 2025, we unveiled a new Hybrid WOOD Diaphragm, combining delicate rosewood fragments with wood-based pulp. It represents the pinnacle of JVC’s aspiration for the ideal tone: WOOD masterpiece.
Our Mission
Today, many earphone makers pursue their own signature sound. In this landscape, our mission is not to “design” sound—but to faithfully deliver it as it was recorded. The sound perfected in the studio, and presented as the finished masterpiece, reaches the listener’s ears exactly as intended.
